1
Take the 7.8 inch (20 cm) wooden stick and the pink cord from the set. Cut a piece of cord about 15.7 inches (40 cm) long, depending on the desired feather length, and tie it as shown in the picture.
2
Pull the cord tight and make a simple knot to start. Lay the ends flat and close together downwards – this forms the base cord.
3
Cut several pieces of cord about 4.7 inches (12 cm) long, depending on the desired feather width. Take the first piece, fold it in half, and place it under the base cord with the loop on the left side.
4
Fold a second piece of cord in half. Thread the loose ends of the first piece on the right side through the loop of the second. Then, pull the ends of the second piece through the loop of the first. Pull tight and slide it up.
5
For the next step, mirror the process: place the next piece under the base cord with the loop on the right side.
6
Thread the loose ends of the first piece through the loop of the second and pull the ends of the second piece through the loop of the first. Pull tight and slide it up.
7
Repeat these four steps until you’re nearly at the end of the base cord. For extra security, tie a small knot at the bottom of the base cord.
8
Carefully brush out the cord with a comb.
9
Use scissors to trim the brushed-out cord into the shape of a feather.
10
For the best effect, cut it into an oval shape. The first feather is complete.
11
To make an eye-catching wall hanging, create multiple feathers in different colours and sizes.
12
Attach a piece of cord to the stick so you can easily hang your finished piece.

Strengthening a macramé feather

A macramé feather can sometimes feel a bit floppy, especially when using thinner cord. To keep your feather firm and nicely shaped, apply fabric glue to the ends of the threads and then comb them neatly. This way your feather will hold its decorative shape for longer. Perfect when adding it to a macramé wall hanging, keychain or dreamcatcher.
