Make a Christmas shadowbox with a Nutcracker scene
Create a cheerful Christmas shadowbox with a layered frame, a shimmering embossed background and playful stamped Nutcracker figures. This DIY project is a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit and is perfect for adults who love working with paper, details and a touch of magic. Ideal for letting your creativity truly shine during Christmas crafting.
Use the largest die from the shadowbox set and cut this shape four times from cardstock.

Fold the score lines of the die-cut shapes. First make four separate frame pieces, then glue them together to create a square frame.

Open the embossing folder with the knitted pattern and apply ink to the recessed side. Gently rub the ink pad over the embossing folder, place the paper inside and run it through the die-cutting and embossing machine.

Glue the embossed paper to the back of the green frame.

Take a straight square die and a scalloped square die. Place them together on cardstock and run them through the die-cutting and embossing machine to create a scalloped frame. Glue this frame onto the green shadowbox frame.

Take a sheet of watercolour paper and stamp the figures from the Nutcracker stamp set onto it. Use waterproof ink for this.

Colour in the stamped figures. In this example, Ecoline Brush Pens are used, but you can also use markers or watercolour paint.

Carefully cut out all the coloured figures with precision scissors.

Glue the Christmas baubles and the Christmas tree directly onto the background inside the frame. Add foam tape underneath the ballerina so she stands out slightly. Glue the Mouse King and the Nutcracker onto the edge of the frame. Give them both a drum in their hands and glue these in place as well.

Cut two pieces of cardstock measuring 6 x 7 inches (15.2 x 17.7 cm). Score both pieces at 1 inch (2.5 cm) along the 7 inch (17.7 cm) side. Then glue the two pieces together using the 1 inch (2.5 cm) strips to create a cover.

Make two holes at the edges of the cover. Take a piece of satin ribbon and thread it through the holes from the inside. If desired, secure the ribbon on the inside of the cover. Then glue the decorated frame inside the cover.

Cut out another square with rounded corners and a square with a scalloped edge from cardstock. Write a message on the white square.

Glue the white square onto the scalloped shape and attach it to the front of the cover. Decorate with a few Nuvo Drops if desired. Tie the ribbon into a bow, so the surprise inside stays hidden a little longer.
