Macramé plant hanger made of jute

For this project, use 3 mm thick jute twine.
Cut 8 pieces of twine, each 2 meters long, and 2 shorter pieces of about 60 cm. Set the two short pieces aside for now.
Fold the 8 long pieces in half and thread them through a bookbinding ring so that the ring sits in the center. Pull all the ends downward — you now have 16 strands hanging.
Take one of the short twines (60 cm). Place one end over the top of the bundle and form a loop about 8–10 cm downward. Wrap the long end of the twine tightly around all the cords, from top to bottom.
Once you’ve wrapped enough, pull the end through the loop at the bottom. Then pull the short end at the top until the loop disappears. Cut off the ends and tuck them under the wrapped section. Use the tip of a pair of scissors to help (carefully!).
Use masking tape to secure the bundle to your work surface, so it stays in place. Divide the 16 strands into 4 groups of 4 cords each.
Start with one group: split it into 2 middle cords and 2 outer cords. The outer cords are your working cords. Cross the right working cord over the two middle cords. Then take the left working cord, pass it over the right cord’s end, under the two middle cords, and up through the loop. Pull both ends tight.
Make a second knot, but in reverse: start with the left cord over the middle, then the right over, under, and through the loop. Pull tight again.
Now switch the middle and outer (working) cords and repeat two knots as described.
Repeat steps 7 to 9 until you have made 8 sets of 2 knots in this group.
Do the same with the other three groups.
Next, connect adjacent groups: take 2 cords from one group and 2 from the next. Create 2 middle cords and 2 working cords. Knot as before, without switching the cords.
Continue knotting in the same way until you've worked your way around — you’ll make 8 sets of 2 knots in total.
Repeat the same process, but this time use the longest cords as working cords and the shortest as middle cords. Make 12 sets of 2 knots per group, again without switching cords.

Work your way around again so you end up with 4 new groups.
Take the second 60 cm rope. Attach it just like in step 4: create a loop, leave a short end sticking out, and wrap the rest around the bundle.
Pull the end through the loop at the bottom and pull the top end until the loop disappears. Tuck the ends neatly under the wrapping.
Finally, trim the loose cords at the bottom to the same length to create a tassel. Place a small pot with a plant in the hanger — and your project is ready to shine!
