Many hobby painters favor acrylic paint. Acrylic paints are used for many different painting techniques and can be used on a myriad of surfaces. Acrylic paint is quick to dry and does not fade. Usually, acrylic paint is layered thickly onto canvas, giving it a result that looks a lot like oil paint. Many painters prefer acrylics because acrylic paint dries a lot faster than oil paint and is almost scentless.
Acrylic paint is a water-based paint. When the paint dries, the water evaporates and the color becomes slightly darker. What remains on the canvas is an elastic acrylic layer on the canvas which isn't sensitive to moisture, light, or temperature. An acrylic painting will therefore last a long time.
