Types of ink pads

Stamp pads for crafting can differ in ink type, material, characteristics and more. The three main types are dye ink, pigment ink, and oxide ink.

Dye ink is ink in which the dye is completely dissolved in a liquid carrier. The ink is thin, transparent and quick-drying. This type of ink is particularly suitable for creating detailed stamps on light, porous materials such as paper, wood and canvas. Dye ink stamp pads are made of felt.

Pigment ink is opaque and visible even on dark materials. The ink consists of fine pigment particles suspended in the liquid. The paint dries slowly, allowing time for further adjusting a project with other crafting techniques, like embossing. Most pigment ink stamp pads are made of foam.

Oxide inks are a combination of pigment ink and a bit of dye ink. They react strongly to water, creating stunning effects also known as oxidised effects. Oxide ink stamp pads are hard and firm.

Archival Ink

Ranger's Archival pigment ink provides permanent stamp imprints on many materials such as paper, textiles and photographs. After drying, the imprint is waterproof and won’t run or blur when it comes into contact with water-based inks, watercolour paint, acrylic paint and markers. Brilliance Ink

Create colourful matte or pearlescent imprints with Brilliance inks such as Tsukineko Brilliance ink pads. Use on smooth materials like paper, vellum, unpainted wood and shrink plastic. Brilliance stamp pads can also be used for embossing.

Memento Ink

Memento ink is ideal for detailed stamps, such as quotes and words. A superb choice for colouring with brush pens. The acid-free dye ink is water-based, quick-drying and doesn’t fade. Available in numerous colours and types including inkpads and DewDrops.

StazOn

StazOn dye ink was specially designed for stamping on smooth surfaces, like glossy paper, plastic, metal, glass and varnished wood. StazOn ink dries extremely quick, is waterproof, scratch-resistant and colour-fast.

VersaColor

Versacolor is an opaque pigment ink that delivers a strong imprint of all shades, even on dark surfaces. The smudge-proof ink comes in a small stackable stamp box and is suitable for crafting techniques like embossing and stencilling.

VersaCraft

Slow drying VersaCraft Pigment ink pads are excellent for stamping or embossing colourful designs on textiles, leather, unvarnished ceramics, wood and other porous materials.

Versafine

The expert ink for delicate details. Versafine is an oil-based pigment ink that dries quickly and is waterproof. The stamp pad comes in a handy stackable container and the Versafine ink pad doesn’t dry out if the lid has been left off for a while.

VersaMagic

This dewdrop stamp pad can be used to create soft prints that look like chalk. The opaque chalk pigment ink is ideal for use on dark colours. Stamp or emboss glassine, shrink plastic, polymer clay and other craft materials.

VersaMark

This transparent, uncoloured ink creates imprints that resemble watermarks. It dries slowly and is perfect to combine with embossing powder, lime paint or chalk.
