It is best to use a new blending foam for each colour to prevent colours from mixing. Or clean the blending foam with a little water and soap. Each foam piece has a thin layer of fabric on one side, which is where you attach the foam to the handle. Dab the blending foam in ink or paint and apply it to the surface.
