The most modern material that a casting mold can be made of is silicone rubber. The objects that you can make with the silicone molds must not be too large or heavy, because otherwise the silicone shape will be deformed. An advantage of silicone molds is that they are durable and can be used over and over again. Other advantages are that the objects cast can easily be removed from the silicone molds and that silicone molds lend themselves very well to small, detailed decorative objects such as hearts, flowers and letters of the alphabet.
Vaessen Creative also has plaster molds in various shapes such as angels, suns and fish. When you use plaster molds to make plaster casts, you can heat the plaster molds with a hairdryer to loosen the plaster. As a material, plaster is easy to work with. Because plaster is a natural product, there may be minor variations in quality. When working with plaster, it’s important to have a proper proportion of plaster to water. Always be sure to store plaster in a cool, dry and dark place.
